The Deutsches Musikgeschichtliches Archiv (German Archiv of musical History) has collected around 36,500 microfilms and microfiches from more than 500 libraries and archives around the world containing musical sources (printed editions, manuscripts and theoretical writings), primarily on German music history from the late 15th to the early 19th century. The archive also has a collection of more than 2,200 original photographs of interest to music and cultural history. Our holdings are available in this unique institute not only to musicians and researchers, but to all interested parties.

The DMgA is an institution of the Musikgeschichtliche Kommission e. V. (MgK). It is funded by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Art and Culture and the Cultural Office of the City of Kassel.

We are open Monday to Friday, visits by appointment.
